1. Initial Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial evaluation by the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned Associate Editor. The purpose of this screening is to assess:

• Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope
• Originality and potential scholarly contribution
• Compliance with submission guidelines and formatting requirements
• Clarity of writing and academic presentation
• Ethical compliance and required declarations

Manuscripts that do not meet minimum standards may be rejected without external peer review (desk rejection).

2. Similarity and Plagiarism Screening

All submissions are subjected to similarity screening using recognized plagiarism detection tools. The editorial team evaluates similarity reports qualitatively, not solely based on percentage thresholds.

JAET verifies compliance with the journal’s AI Usage Policy. Manuscripts must include a clear AI disclosure statement where applicable. Undisclosed or inappropriate AI usage may result in rejection or further investigation.

4. Ethical Compliance Verification

During screening, the editorial office verifies:

• Presence of conflict of interest statements
• Funding disclosure statements
• Ethical approval (if human participants are involved)
• Authorship compliance

Incomplete ethical documentation may delay the review process.

5. Technical and Metadata Screening

The editorial office ensures that:

• The manuscript is anonymized for double-blind review
• Required metadata (title, abstract, keywords, author details) are correctly entered in OJS
• References follow APA 7th Edition format
• DOI information is included where available

6. Desk Rejection Criteria

A manuscript may be rejected at the screening stage if:

• It falls outside the journal’s scope
• It lacks sufficient originality or scholarly depth
• It demonstrates serious methodological weaknesses
• It contains ethical violations
• It fails to meet formatting and structural requirements

7. Transparency and Fairness

The screening process is conducted objectively and independently of financial considerations. Authors are notified promptly if their manuscript does not proceed to peer review.
